一、divide 多作动词 。意思是“分开” 。指把一个整体分成若干份 。例如：
Divide the cake among the children. 把饼分给孩子们 。
Friendships multiply joys and divide griefs.友谊增加快乐，分担悲伤 。
The fence divides their land from ours.篱笆把他们的地和我们的地分开了 。
二、separate 动词 。意思是“把......分开、隔开、区分开、分手、分居” 。例如：
We separated the good ones from the bad ones.我们把好的和坏的分开 。
We talked until midnight and then separated.我们谈到半夜才分开的 。
They separated after ten years of marriage.他们结婚十年后分居了 。
